Ahhh...summer fun! I'm back from my summer vacation. Happy to be home and get in the groove of things. We typically take our summer vacation later in the summer, but with my daughter starting kindergarten in the early fall and my in-laws 50th anniversary in June we went away earlier this year. It was perfect! The weather was mostly cloudy with drizzling rain here and there with a few sunshine days sprinkled in. Now, most people would not like that on summer vacation or any vacation for that matter, but when you live in the desert and the temps climbed to 117 degrees the day you left you look forward to clouds, rain and getting rained on...oh what fun we had! The alternative was hot and muggy weather (if the sun was out) and I know no one likes that!
When I leave on vacation I always have things that I didn't get done prior to me leaving and wind up taking it with me with hopes of accomplishing it... files for clients, invoicing, bills, my writing/song projects and a list of blog articles. This year I wrote my list of "things to do" that needed to get done on vacation...I didn't get any of them done, but one and that was to relax, enjoy time with my family, sleep in, rest and have fun!! I let everything else go until I got home. The list of course, grew while I was gone and I came home to a few unsettling new things that need to be done... but, I will survive them, I always do and I will get to those tasks one by one.
I am happy to say that I actually accomplished that one item on my "to do" list. It was the most important thing TO DO.....to refresh my mind, spirit, self and strengthen the bond of my family with my husband, daughter, in-laws, niece and nephew. I unplugged and let everything go for once. I am thrilled that I did. Now, that I am home I haven't slept very well, it took me 3 days to acclimate back into reality...with unpacking, laundry, bills, mail and getting our 5 dogs from the pound, yes 5. They all had a hard time because they are not used to the kennel, but wouldn't you know it that our dog sitter moved to San Diego a week before we left. oh well....they survived too!
All in all our vacation was filled with happy times and happy memories had by all. My blog list has grown tenfold with ideas to blog about, I was inspired to write a new song and a new book. Now, if I can only find the time to mix my dreams with my reality. As the summer days whine down and the school bells are heard in the distant 3 weeks, I will. In the mean time, family, fun and summer memories will be at the top of my list!
Make it a great summer vacation with your kid(s), family and friends. Take the time to relax, enjoy your time together, put all the pressures of your daily hectic grind behind you, let it go and realize that these days are the most important to yourself, your family, your sanity and to your family harmony and peace. Soak up the sun, rain or warm muggy days depending on where you'll be at on your vacation. And enjoy!!!
Thanks for checking in on moms kids and friends!! All of my best and lots more to come, Dyan
